There are four set tasks, and a selection of extra things that you can contribute. We will discuss these in meetings, and through the blog, and in any other ways that you wish to arrange. Remember that absolutely everyone is welcome to take part, not just those who made the first session. There is no compulsion, though - feel free to join in with as many or as few as you can (though please make the fourth one a priority) Where possible, and with your permission, we will collate the responses and publish them in a little book. If you could have things to me by April 2nd that would be great.
I'll create a new blog post for each of these tasks so that we can add comments and share thoughts, questions and resources.
Bible study - Matthew 6 - explore what this passage means to us today. Suggested word limit of 1000 words.
Creative task - make an advert that tries to reverse the message of normal advertising (you need more stuff, this product will make you happier, more attractive...)
Practical task - write a household budget (not including absolute amounts of money, but percentages)
Challenge - think and write about how you can be a better Christian in the way you buy things. Suggested word limit of 500 words.

Fantastic initial 'planning' meeting on Thursday, Andy. I am soooo excited about this new format for SofaChurch and just love the fact that we are going to be exploring a topic in depth and with so much 'practical' application too.
Just wondering, though, if I am the only one who gulped at the amount of writing to be done. I know there is a 'creative' element with the advert plus the budgeting activity etc. but wonder whether the tasks are a little too 'weighted' towards folk who enjoy writing etc or have a more 'academic' learning style. In a similar way to discussion favouring those who like talking/philosophical debate. Could it be a little more 'open-ended' maybe, so folk could choose how they wish to respond?
I'm sorry.... its the 'mind-friendly' fan whittering on again... eek! I appreciate that you have to put a 'word limit' for printing purposes, but the Bible Study passage particularly offers so much scope for a variety of responses: poetry, music (a CD could be included with the book!)photography, artwork etc.
Just thoughts.

Hi Jo, thanks for that - I think you're right, there shouldn't be a restriction on the style of response to the tasks. Everyone feel free to tackle them in whatever form you like. The word limits were really to act as a guide if people did want to write things out.
This looks good:
