CafeChurch

On Thursday 27th November we'll be hearing about another exciting new development - Jo and Andy will be sharing their vision for a outreach church to meet in Costa Coffee. This will run alongside SofaChurch, and the two will be closely integrated. Jo and Andy will run the evening like a CafeChurch meeting might go to give us a flavour of what it will be like, and there will be a chance for questions and discussion.

Amazingly I think we'll both be along tomorrow night! Anything in particular we need to bring?

Fantastic!! Think we'll both be along too... hee hee!!

No, you don't need to bring anything with you just each other.

Thanks very much, Jo and Andy - you did a great job.

Jo and Andy,

Sounds like you had a great night last night. Wish I could have been there.

I've had a thought that I was mentioning to Andy this morning and he thought it wouldn't hurt to mention it to you...

Would it be worth getting a few people on board who would commit to turning up each month to help? Only we've seen with SofaChurch that some weeks there are 15 people and other weeks only 2 or 3.

It would be tough if you were short of table hosts, welcomers, etc. and might help to have a wider (committed) team, to help out if you guys weren't free/ill whatever. I wonder if folks might be a bit more "might go if I'm free; I'll see how I feel on the night" otherwise.

What do you think? Feel free to disagree of course :o)

Thank-you Jo and Andy for an interesting evening, it gave me a lot to think about. Thanks also to everyone for making a (relative) newcomer feel very welcome - what a lovely group of people. :-)

Very pleased that you enjoyed the evening, Davros, and that you felt so welcome too. Yup, they are a truly lovely and special bunch here, hence I said how welcomed I felt when I first started to come along. Just wish I could get along more often. :0)

Funnily enough we were discussing how we really needed a committed group of hosts/welcomers/leaders on the drive home last night. So really pleased that you and Andy were thinking the same thing too. Apart from which I think it really helps if you have a core of 'familiar faces' when starting out on a venture like this, rather than a different group each month. Have been involved in projects in the past that had a moe adhoc approach with regards helpers and it proved to be a real nightmare having to ring up the night before literally begging folk to come along... eek!!

Not quite sure how best to 'recruit' folk though, as I'd hate it if someone was overlooked that might be interested in getting involved. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure this is a very spiritual approach, but I'd be tempted to approach people you like and who you suspect think along similar lines as you and Andy. Getting on well as a team is really important.

When we first had the SofaChurch idea, Bob and Sheron seemed natural 'accomplices', as they had the same vision, enthusiasm and get up and go.

More recently, Tim's taken more of an active role; again, he shares our "why not?" attitude, which is so important with this sort of thing, as you don't want to be tugging in different directions.

Alternatively, you could do a post here and see who seems keen. I suspect Bob, Sheron and Sharon are more committed to their new venture; I'm focussing on the girls group and Andy's baby is obviously the main one.

So I reckon I'd try to rope in some of the others. It'd be fantastic to have most of the group excited about, and playing an active role in one project or other, wouldn't it?

I think people like being hand-picked for these things; they're much more likely to be happy to commit I think, than if you do a general call for help. That's how I would respond anyway!

Hello! Can anyone tell me what the Cafe Church's statement of faith is please?

I'll try and find out for you, Gunkle, no problem. The venture is Jo's baby really, so she'll have a better idea than me. Will get back to you...

Hello Gunkle
The statement for faith for our particular CafeChurch venture will be exactly the same as SofaChurch, given that both are interlinked. But if you want to find out more about the CafeChurch organisation then check out their website at www.cafechurch.net
Hope that addresses your query but if not do let us know.

Sounds great... Though are you aware there is already a church that meets in Costa Coffee on a Sunday afternoon? Might be worth checking out...

Jo said...

Thanks Geoff for your encouraging remarks.

Yes, we are aware that there is a group already meeting at the Tesco's Costa Coffee. But, as its not linked to the official CafeChurch network (which is fully endorsed by Costa Coffee senior management team) things should be ok. In fact I'm actually quite pleased as it means that the store manager is already amenable for having their facilities used by the local Christian community.
