The Matrix

I'm terribly excited by this one. The film for November (13th) is The Matrix.

One of the best Science Fiction films of recent years, laced with allegories and commentaries on the nature of life, the universe etc, coached in spiritual language - it is an excellent celebration of post-modern thinking and spirituality.

It's also ground breaking in its effects and a downright compelling story from the outset - so even if the deep stuff bypasses you - come along for what I commend as one of the most superlative films in a long time (even if its sequels do not approach the spirit of this first of The Matrix films).

Its a good film, yes. But please can someone explain what it has to do with true, bibilical Christianity?

Gunkle - have a look at the South Park post for a fuller exposition of my views on non-scriptural revelation.

Specific to The Matrix, it can shed light on the nature of the apparent reality we are enclosed with, and the hidden-to-many spiritual realm. While most people are content (?) in a world of television and family and money, others have glimpsed the kingdom of God creeping in, and of course a realm of darker spiritual forces. Now, we know this stuff primarily from the Bible, but it can be useful to see things from a different angle. Many of us in SofaChurch have been around the block a few times and know the biblical stuff pretty well, so a new perspective on things can be very refreshing.

For us, this world isn't the real thing; it's not all there is. Neo also finds that there's another world - the Matrix.

It's as simple as that for me, but I'm not a huge fan, so haven't given it much thought!
