Film Nights...

Had an idea for a film night, but can't remember by the time you're at the next SofaChurch? Then leave a comment here... currently suggested (by me, to be honest! So let's have some others...) :

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy
  • The Wicker Man
  • Monty Python (various!)
  • Keeping Mum
  • The Matrix
  • V for Vendetta
  • I, Robot
  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  • A series on superheroes
  • Seasonal films like "Muppet Christmas Carol"...

My favourite film is probably Pulp Fiction. If you can handle the violence/language I find it an amazing story of God's grace. Very funny and hip too. But possibly a bit too edgy for all tastes, so maybe not one we can use...?

Monty Python! Why didn't I think of that? Please please may we watch The Life Of Brian?

Why Andy hasn't listed my favourite film, Clueless, is a bit of a mystery. It's obviously deeply spiritual.

What-ever.

A film I think would be really good to watch is The Shawshank Redemption, there are loads of hidden gems in it.A truly remarkable and moving film.
The making of documentary on the DVD is very good too.
This is definately in my Top Ten(if not Top Five) fave films list along with The Odd Couple,Some like it Hot,Chocolat(of course) and As Good as it Gets.As for Monty Python, I give a resounding 'Ni'!!!

Bad Influence - a very much Faustian tale, and 'be careful what you wish for or you may get it'.

Life of Brian it is then!

A few films to recommend:

What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? - exploration of metaphysics, theology and science (it's possible Andy might have problems with it!), Religulous a caustic and funny deconstruction of the worst excesses of religion but ends up with a conclusion as extreme and destructive as that which it rails against, and Sex and the City Movie, which stands alone well from the series, and covers just about every relationship issue people in their 30s, 40s & even 50s can cover. More of a chick flick, but it does have moral and meaningful content!
