Consequences poetry

An evening of fun and games was planned,
Everybody was nicely tanned.
People were paddling in the shallow sea,
Children were shrieking, giggling with glee.
They jumped and skipped and ran about,
One was so excited some wee came out.
It made a suspicious stain on the floor
They stepped over it and left, slamming the door.
The tinsel fell off and mum was quite cross.
Into her head popped Matt Goss, from Bros.
What a horrible image, her mind recoiled.
She pushed away her dinner, her appetite spoiled.
Even the sprouts were left untouched.
Which meant that the toilet went unflushed.

Snow is lying on the hillside
But inside the fire glows in the grate
And the children want to stay up late.
They were forbidden to do so as they had been naughty,
And were all sent to bed without any supper.
There was much rumbling of hungry tummies and many grumpy faces.
Bah humbug till the turkey and sprouts arrive.
The bad mood lasted until the evening.
It was eventually dispersed by loud music and wild dancing.
Much fun was had by all, the party raged on well past midnight,
And nobody had an early night, they all had a ball.
They all froze, however, when HE came to call...

I wonder what Santa will bring for me?
What will he leave beneath my twinkling tree?
"You'd better not peek till the morning."
Was the sombre warning.
Everyone listened with solemn faces
As they wished themselves in other places.
Suddenly the Tardis appeared and there stood Doctor Who!
His long scarf flapped - he'd know what to do!
He removed it in haste and waved it in the air.
He took off his hat and fluffed out his hair.
"Good day to you fine people" he declared.
He delivered his speech, most carefully prepared.
HIs words were received with rapturous applause,
And presents galore, form old Santa Claus.

With reference to Bros aren't we showing our age? ;o)

So is there a plan for '08 ? Promoting Sofa Church more? Working out direction? (as well as our own array of family and personal issues...) .

Curiously

As far as promoting SofaChurch goes, we've got an advert in Shavington's village magazine, The Village Voice, coming out in January. I think we'll play it by ear from there...

Another idea was to have a table at the May Shavington Festival, maybe give out lollies and promotional postcards.

Posters around the village are tricky, as they tend to be for specific events rather than on-going things. Having said that, a good quality, big one on the church noticeboard might be an idea for passers-by.

Do you have any thoughts Tim?

I was chatting with Helen t'other night, and I think we need to be completely clear as to what age range and spirituality we want to attract, perhaps networking further with other local churches and organisations. It's nice having a 'close group' but the model we need is a grow and divide...

a good chinwag either one night, either a sofa church group, or somewhere over a bevvy might be good - IMO.

Also developing more folk to 'own' the sofa church ethos (whatever that might be!) so it becomes a matter of corporate interest, not just a perceived leadership thing.

Anyway, I ramble having had 6 hours travelling today...

Constructively meant :o)

I agree with your 'grow and divide' idea completely. That said, I don't think the measure of success for the group depends totally on numbers. We're hopeful that meetings are already meeting some folks needs, perhaps for friendship and also for a place to be more honest about Christian things.

I thought, like you, that we should encourage more folk to feel some ownership of the group, which was where I was coming from with the idea of sharing leading meetings. But I've wondered recently whether, if people are happy with meetings being led by the same folks each time, we shouldn't take that as a compliment that they seem happy with the way things are going.

Discussing the direction and aims of the group is a great idea. I think Bob would be keen to be in on that one too. We could either have it during a SofaChurch meeting or a crowd of us could pop out to a pub one night?

We're both really chuffed that you and Helen are so clearly invested in SofaChurch - it's a great support to know that you're behind what we're trying to do.

I'm easy "whatever" for discussing it... I'll go with the flow... yes I'm behind it, as it is a type of model for Church which I think will play an important part in being church. Lots in my head to discuss, so I won't spend hours here outpouring it all!

The Crewe Guardian also has free events listing here

http://events.creweguardian.co.uk/

BBC Radio Stoke's faith bit would also be interested I reckon, as well as their own community listings

http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/faith/index.shtml

Lots of free opportunities.
